I Sit and Stare (2025) combines silkscreen, acrylic, pencil, and ink on 140 lb Arches watercolor paper. Built from multiple pulls of the same architectural motif, the image rises in stacked layers of reds, yellows, and blues, recalling the façades of 19th-century New York cast-iron buildings. Transparent washes and hand-drawn details give the work a shifting, almost time-lapse quality, echoing the way cities accumulate memories and histories.
Influenced by his years living in Manhattan, David often titles his tower works after moments of pause or reflection within dense urban life. Here, the structure becomes both a building and a state of mind — a place where observation and memory overlap.
