Hochbaum's first "Gotham block" series was created in 2017.
They are one-of-a-kind sculptures made from blocks of hardwood and acrylic paint.
They are a cousin to David's sculptural project titled "Village in a can". The villages are houses made from remnant scraps of wood which the artist saves when building frames and stretchers.
"Gotham blocks" seem to be the natural reaction the artist has when he finds a process and digs deep on it, obsessing and repeating until it evolves. The process transforming in profile and media. Traditionally , this is Hochbaum's M.O.
The blocks are sometimes numbered or titled. The signifigant detail marker and ID will be the year.
